CCTV Cameras
and Home Security Systems
Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) is a system of video surveillance cameras used on a property for safety precautions. If a property contains valuable goods, it is usually recommended to have a security system to increase the security of the property.
CCTV and security systems are not just good for reducing the chances of burglaries, it also can be useful for identifying and helping prosecute anyone who attempts to burgle a property. Cameras can be placed on either the inside or outside of a property, providing the privacy of the individuals nearby is heavily considered.

-
How do CCTV systems work?
CCTV systems contain a camera, which transfers the pictures to the recording system. From the recording system, the images are transferred to the monitor, to be viewed at any given time.
-
Do I need a CCTV license?
It is very dependent on the location and angle of the camera: if the camera is used in a commercial or business environment where other persons will be monitored, then a licence will be required. If the camera is on a domestic building, but is only facing the property, then a licence will not be required.
-
Where should I put CCTV cameras in my house?
There are multiple ideas to consider when installing CCTV cameras:
-Privacy – It is essential that privacy is considered when installing cameras. For example, cameras should not be installed in bathrooms, bedrooms, or overseeing different properties.
-Windows and lighting – Due to the lighting and glazing from windows, it is not recommended to position a camera away from a window, to prevent the reflection affecting the quality of the output. This also applies to light sources as the brightness of the light will impact the visibility.
-Outdoors – When placing a camera, they should be roughly 8ft above ground to prevent anyone being able to reach it. It also should not be directly facing the sun; this prevents the glares affecting the quality of the output.
